Started in 1990 in Sonoma County by the parents of current owners David and Daniel Astobiza, Sole Desire now has 16 locations throughout California, including their store at 801 Second Street in downtown Davis.
The store is a family business through and through. Anicia, Daniel’s wife, manages office operations, while David’s wife Michele Pellagrini works as the marketing and social media manager.
“We live and breathe Sole Desire and it’s so much more than a job, it’s our family legacy and something we are very proud of,” the families said.
“We always carried unique and hard to find brands that had amazing comfort features,” they said. “We have stayed true to our roots and continue to evolve with the changing demands and styles that women want and need from us.”
Knowing the in-store experience remains crucial when it comes to shopping for shoes — unlike many other retail businesses that have migrated online — Sole Desire puts customer service first.
“You need to get your feet measured and see what type of foot you have and then our helpful team can make suggestions based on what we know will work for you,” the owners said.
Sole Desire even has a foot scanner machine that indicates not only shoe size but pressure points and arch type. “This free service is a great starting point and can make finding shoes effortless, plus you get to better understand your feet,” the owners said.
“Thank you so much for supporting our family business,” the Astobizas said. “As a second-generation women’s shoe store, we love that our parents’ legacy continues on and more importantly, we’re lucky to be a part of such an incredible community! Thank you, Davis!”
